Semper Station 3 – More Energy!

Semper Station 3 – Energy

A reminder for everyone interested and everyone not interested. Semper Station 3 takes place on 19th January 2010! The theme is Energy and is very much up to interpretation. The night is going to change somewhat this month. It is the New Year after all. So what are the changes going to be? And what are the rules for people wanting to submit?

The Changes

Voting!

The whole night is going to have a twist to it this time, with the audience voting for their favourite play and two winners being crowned! The winners will get a special mention on the website after the event. This to ensure the writers get feedback from the night.

Youtube!

Also, thanks to Father Christmas the whole event will be recorded and, as long as the individual pieces fit within the ten minute limit, will end up on YouTube. Full details will follow later but I think getting people’s work out on the web will also allow for internet users and friends to pose questions and comment on the plays.

The Rules

Energy

The night will be on at the Station Pub, Sutton Coldfield on Tuesday January 19th 2010.

Scripts should:

  • Be no longer than ten minutes long
  • Be suitable to perform in a confined area
  • Use no more than 3 actors
  • Be linked to the nights theme – ‘Energy’

Please include your postcode in the e-mail.  Entries from outside of the Midlands will be considered but preference will be given to writers living in the area.

Any excuse

The closing date for entries is midnight on 10th January 2010

If anyone wants to help perform the scripts on the night please get in contact too. Semperstation needs actors!

All entries should be sent to semperinfo@googlemail.com

Scripts should:

  • Be no longer than ten minutes long
  • Be suitable to perform in a confined area
  • Use no more than 3 actors
  • Be linked to the nights theme – ‘Energy’

Semper Station 2: Anticipation

Wow.  Semper Station 2 is exactly a week away today.  Yes, this time next week we’ll be laughing, crying and feeling just that little bit uncomfortable as the fantastic writers show what they’re made of!  To celebrate the fact, feast your eyes on the flyer that I’ve created that will be soon plastered all over the Station Pub…

A big bucket of thanks.

I know I’m lazy but I’ve copied this from the Semper blog.  The most important bit is how SEMPER STATION WILL RETURN (cue lots of happy noises from everyone concerned – even from you.  Becuase this time you will turn up!  Evil face.  Evil face.  Happy face).

Semper Station took its long awaited bow last night. It went superbly and really showed that in Birmingham we do indeed have some amazing writing talent. For me personally it was a priceless chance to meet fellow writers and talk to like minded people – even if the majority of my conversation desended into nervous ramblings. Of course the night wouldn’t have gone ahead without the support of so many people, so before I start collating and uploading videos I’d like to thank (in no particular order)…

  • Everyone who submitted their work for the night. Trying to decide which pieces to include was a really difficult job, made all the harder by the calibre of the submissions
  • Everyone who performed some of the scripts. Almost everyone had absolutely no idea what they would be doing when they arrived and everyone was really helpful and eager to get stuck in. It really helped the night run smoothly! (A special mention to Louise Stokes and Gary Longdon for adding an air of proffesionalism to the proceedings, and to Jon Deeming who had no idea what was going on when he arrived, yet took to the stage bravely)
  • To Dan Simpson for turning up and somehow managing to work lighting cues into scripts that had none, and washes into scenes that hadn’t even considered them.
  • Layla and everyone at The Station Pub! Without whom there would have been no plays, no readings and no night. The gratis provision of the room meant that the night was possible to supply without charge.
  • Catherine and everyone at Script West Midlands for promoting the night and putting scattered people in touch with one another.
  • And finally (and some might say, most importantly) to everyone who came to watch the night, and sat diligently through. I hope that the night was enjoyable!

The rumours are true, Semper Station will return near the end of November, so stay tuned (is that the right word?) to the blog for more information, plus some pictures and videos of last night. Till next time, Phil

I’m trying to help – Semper Station

Hello all! I gather there’s some confusion concerning tonight. I can’t currently get onto facebook so I’m writing this to hopefully clear some things up. Anyone who is confused please look at www.sempergroup.wordpress.com for more information!

Almost everything is going on there. Still confused? I’ve uploaded the flyer.

It starts at 9pm you know.

It starts at 9pm you know.

Still confused? I’ll run over the main facts:

  •  For people watching please arrive for a prompt 9pm start.
  • If you are performing/would like to perform please arrive for 8pm
  • There is no price to pay on the door.  It’s as free as you are a spirit.
  • The plays are all about 10 minutes long and there’s a break after every second one.
  • You don’t actually have to get drunk
  • Yes, I will be compering, and yes I will be wearing a tie.

Hopefully that clears it all up!  If you’re still confused e-mail me at phil_hurst@hotmail.co.uk or semperinfo@gmail.com

Still confused?  Sigh.  There’s no helping some people.

Loves,

Phil

The flyer of Truth

SemperstationflyerNow I know when you read that headline you immediately think of the ‘flyers’ in Will Self’s brilliant novel The Book Of Dave (click on it if you want a copy) but in fact I’m referring to the flyer for SemperStation.

Its been a while since I posted a picture so I thought you might enjoy the distraction.  Oooohhh look a pretty picture.

Its lovely isn’t it.

The event itself is shaping up nicely, the flyers and posters are beginning to appear in random places around Sutton Coldfield (well at least they will once I print them)

Loves,

Phil

Whotube? Philtube!

http://www.youtube.com/user/Sempergroup

This is the place to be kids. Watch the video of my play Experiment, which was put on down in London in May.

I’m sorry for the awful quality but its the best I could do with the (debatable) resources I had. Enjoy! I’m putting the actual videos on my ‘plays’ page.

Have recieved the first few entries for Semper Station as well now.  It’s looking like it might shape up to be a cracking night!  Lots of interest on Saturday night (albiet from drunk friends) and lots of positive feedback on the concept itself.

I’ll put up some more details about Semper Station soon, I’m just in the process of designing the flyer now…  Ohhh exciting!

Semper Station rumbles into town

I know I know, I only blogged yesterday and everyone is sick of me taking up there time with my occasionally witty but often hilarious blogs.  This time though I do have something to say that one could class as important.  Especially if one likes to dabble in a little bit of writing.

Phoned the Station Pub’s manager the other day and confirmed that Semper Station will definately be going on.  I’ve put the entry form for people’s scripts into this blog but also the Semper blog, which is being momentarily revived for the event.  So here goes.

Semper Station call for submissions

Midlands writer’s group Semper is putting on a new writing night at the Station pub, Sutton Coldfield on the 20th October 2009. It will consist of six or seven short scripts being read script in hand in front of an audience.  The purpose is to celebrate and promote forward-thinking writing in the area.

The theme is for the first night is ‘Human Nature’

If you wish to submit, please ensure…

The script is linked to the night’s theme.

  • The script is no longer than ten minutes.
  • The script can be performed in a small area.
  • The script uses no more than four actors.
  • You include your home postcode in the e-mail.

Each person should submit one script only and all submissions need to be sent to the below e-mail no later than midnight on October 10th 2009.

For more details consult the website www.sempergroup.wordpress.com

All submissions should be sent to semperinfo@gmail.com

Exciting no?  I mean.  Yes it’s exciting.  Anyone who fancies an act feel free to let me know and I’ll try and fit you in (in other words we have far too few actors and would really really like people to join in)

Loves

Phil
